Qatar and United Arab Emirates (UAE) today signed the minutes of exchange of ratification of the agreement between the governments of the two countries concerning transportation of gas through a
pipeline between Qatar and UAE.Qatar and UAE signed the agreement of transportation of gas on September 26, 2004 in Abu Dhabi.
For the Qatari side, the agreement was signed by the Second Deputy Premier and Energy and Industry Minister H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, and for the UAE by the Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The agreement between the two countries became operational after signing of the minutes. The minutes was signed by Qatar's ambassador to UAE Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Othman and UAE Foreign Undersecretary Abdullah Rashid Al Nuaimi.
The agreement aims at strengthening the bilateral ties and promoting the economic ties through transportation of natural gas from Qatar to UAE for mutual benefit. The agreement clarifies the safety of the pipelines besides preserving the environment. The agreement also provides for setting up a joint committee to help implement the agreement.
