The Shaw Group Inc. announced it has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction services contract by Entergy Louisiana, LLC, for a dual fuel combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant. The nominally-sized, 550-megawatt unit will be built at Ninemile Point Steam Electric Station near New Orleans, La., and is scheduled for commercial operation by mid-2015.
"Shaw has provided a variety of engineering and other services to Entergy for nearly 40 years," said Clarence Ray, chief executive officer of Shaw's Power Group. "This new award, along with the two gas plants Shaw currently is building and one it recently has completed in the U.S., exemplifies Shaw's expertise in helping our clients meet the growing demand for clean, affordable and reliable energy." Approximately $500 million will be included in Shaw's Power segment's backlog of unfilled orders in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011.
"We are committed to providing reliable, dependable and low-cost energy for our customers today and tomorrow, and this investment in a modern, clean and efficient plant will help us meet our customers' needs for economical electricity in a growing region," said Bill Mohl, president and chief executive officer of Entergy Louisiana, LLC. "We are pleased to have selected Shaw as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor to work in conjunction with an in-house management team for this project. Shaw's experience in constructing CCGT plants will be an asset to the Ninemile 6 project."
