A fire broke out in a gas pipeline in Rumaila oil field, southern Iraq, without significant affect on the supply of gas to power stations, a security official source said. The source at the Facilities Protection Service told Kuwait News Agency here that the fire broke out in the gas transmission line from the Rumaila field to Najibiyah power station near the town of Zubair.

Initial investigations indicated that the cause of the fire is the erosion of temperature and pressure levels, the source said, ruling out sabotage. The source said Civil Defense teams were working to control the fire, stressing that the gas supply to the power plant had not been harmed because of the incident.
