Speaking to Shana, Mr. Mohaddes said that five new oil and gas fields had been found so far this Iranian year that ends 20th March 2012.
Stating that oil and gas discoveries remain secret until a definite conclusion, the official added details relating to the newly found field will be announced possibly before the end of this Iranian year after conducting different tests on the reservoir and assessment exact volume of its oil and gas reserves.
Last December Iran’s minister of petroleum announced discovery of a new field with remarkable gas reserves in waters of the Caspian Sea which was named Kochak khan Jangali to honor the leader of Jungle Movement that fought against despotic ruling regimes of Iran on the one hand and foreign interference on the other hand in early 20th century in north of Iran.
Gas reserves of the field, which is located 700 meters depth of Caspian Sea, was estimated to be several times above the earlier forecasts.
Mr. Qasemi said oil industry experts could reach the reservoir following more than 2400 meters drilling adding the reservoir is completely within the Iranian side of the sea locating in the edge of Iran’s maritime border.
Iran’s Gas reserves went up to a great extent by discovering this reservoir, Qasemi said adding the discovery was good news for Iranian people living in the northern part of the country.
The official noted that efforts to discover oil and gas reserves in the Caspian sea goes back to before the Islamic Revolution in 1979 adding currently 46 blocks have been identified mainly located in deep waters of which eight blocks are more important.
