Saudi Arabia Donates Another Oil Shipment to Yemen

Source: Yemen Post 3/27/2012, Location: Middle East

The custodian of the two holy mosques King Abdullah Abdul-ziz donated another oil shipment to Yemen enough for two months, the official Saba news agency reported. The revelation came after a meeting with the Yemeni President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi, who returned to the capital Sana'a after a short trip to his rich northern neighbor that lasted only a few hours.

The oil rich Gulf state has donated many similar shipments to its poor, trouble-torn southern neighbor throughout the one-year-long crisis. During his visit, Hadi held talks with King Abdullah on a range of issues, including the challenges facing Yemen, the latest developments in the country, and Friends of Yemen donors meeting to be held in Riyadh next month.

King Abdullah has called on the Yemeni forces to engage in the upcoming national dialogue to kick off soon, stressing the importance of the committing to the second phase of the GCC accord. For his party, Hadi has expressed his appreciation for the constant support of Riyadh for Sana'a, reminding of the essential Saudi role in defusing tensions in his country and helping it recover from the ill-effects of the prolonged crisis that dragged for over a year.

His visit to Riyadh was the first official trip for him as Yemen's President. Hadi became the president in February based on the GCC-drawn power transfer deal that eased former President Ali Abdullah Saleh from power in exchange for immunity from prosecution. The main provisions of the second phase of the GCC agreement include restructuring the army, drafting a new constitution and holding a national dialogue.
