Gas production capacity at the South Pars gas field will reach 350 million cubic meters per day this Iranian calendar year, began 20 March, by launching five new phases and rising gas production capacity at current phases.

In interview with Shana, managing director of the Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Mousa Souri made the above remarks, adding early production from South Pars phase 12 will start this year definitely. He went on to say that gas processing plants of the phases 12 and 15-16 will come online over the first and second half of the current year respectively.

‘The company plans to start gas production from phases 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18 this year’, POGC’s managing director told Shana.

Referring to gas production from the K1 layer of the field for the first time this year, Souri said: By implementation of the project, gas production capacity from phases 2 to 10 will rise by 20 percent.

‘Even though we witnessed some delays in the projects, which were out of control of those involved in implementation of the projects but this year by taking some initiatives in providing financial resources and meeting foreign exchange and necessary goods, it is expected the field’s projects to come on stream on schedule’, Souri said.

According to the official, South Pars’s gas production capacity registered a new record last year reaching 290 million cubic meters per day.

Based on the POGC’s figures, last year gas production from the field stood at 86 billion cubic meters worth 40 billion dollars.

Extracting gas from phases 9 and 10 to 42 million cubic meters per day, successful implementation of rising gas production capacity at phase 1 by 200 million cubic feet per day, upgrading refining processes at phases 6, 7 and 8 with the aim of reducing pollution and transferring drilling operations of two descriptive-production wells to domestic contractors are among the projects implemented in the field last year.

Located in the Persian Gulf waters, South Pars is the largest gas field in the world and is shared by Iran and Qatar.
