Over 1500 pressure and temperature transmitters had been supplied for use in the Sakhalin II offshore oil and gas production project in the Sea of Okhotsk. Situated in Russia's far east, Sakhalin Island, experiences environmental conditions which provide a challenge to measurement instrumentation, with extremes of ambient temperature (from -45 to +40C) and wide daily changes.
London-based AMEC, the main contractor for the offshore platform production control systems, selected high reliability pressure and temperature instrumentation to meet the specification for both Phase 2 platforms, the Lunskoye platform LUN-A and the Piltun Astokhskoye PA-B platform. Approximately 500 of 3051 family pressure transmitters are being supplied, some with chemical seals and some with integral manifolds. Most of the 350 temperature transmitter assemblies will be supplied complete with special Shell-designed thermowells.
Much of this instrumentation will use foundation fieldbus communications, allowing control room access to the diagnostics and predictive maintenance capability available from these intelligent transmitters.
