National Iranian Gas Company’s managing dirctor, Javad Oji, says Serajeh gas storage facility is ready for official opening.

Speaking to Shana reporter, Oji said: We are awaiting presidential office to declare the date of official opening ceremonies.

Iranian minister of petroleum, Rostam Qasemi have sent necessary letters to president Ahmadinejad to invite him to attend official opening ceremonies of the project, Oji told Shana.

As the first gas storage facility in the Middle East, Serajeh facility has stored up to now 350 to 360 million cubic meters of gas.

NIGC’s managing director said it was expected at least four million cubic meters of gas per day to be withdrawn from the facility for injection to the country’s gas grid in winter.

Earlier managing director of Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC), Mehdi Fakour, said nine storage wells of the facility were ready for injection and withdrawing of natural gas. According to the official, Serajeh facility’s wells have the capacity to store 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas in summer and can deliver 4.5 million cubic meters of gas per day in winter.

On storing gas in Shorijeh gas storage facility in east of the country, Oji noted that the facility had been designed for withdrawal of 20 million cubic meters of gas per day predicting the project to be launched in early 2014. Managing director of Iran’s Gas Storage Company, Masoud Samivand, said in May the facility had progressed by 70 percent.

Gas injection to Serajeh facility started November last year but it was suspended in cold days of winter due to rising gas consumption even though injection has been resumed since May 2012.

Gas volume at Serajeh gas storage facility will climb to 1.5 billion cubic meters that could be a good cushion for winter peak consumption. The facility located near city of Qom will take about seven million cubic meters of gas per day from May to November each year with the aim of yielding 10 million cubic meters of gas per day in winter.

Under the Iran Gas Storage Company’s planning, during the four cold months of each year gas withdrawal from Serajeh facility will reach 20 million cubic meters per day at the end of fifth five-year development plan in 2015.
