RDS, the engineering arm of drilling contractor KCA Deutag, announced that it has been selected by Statoil to perform the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) for a fixed drilling rig which will be part of the Peregrino phase II project, located off the coast of Brazil. The Peregrino FEED is another significant award that reinforces RDS position as the world’s leading specialist drilling facilities engineering contractor, with over 600 engineers located across its major engineering centres in Aberdeen, London, Norway, Houston and Baku.

John Thorman, Greenfield Business Manager for RDS said, "This award is aligned with our strategy of seeking involvement in new projects from the very early conceptual and front end engineering stages, for further follow on with the provision of potential drilling operations and maintenance services. This work for Statoil complements similar projects which have been carried out in Canada and Australia. Strategically this is an important contract win for KCA Deutag as it strengthens our position in the Brazilian market, where we have already delivered a number of engineering studies for major local contractors."

The project starts immediately and will be executed from RDS London offices. The award builds upon a number of flagship offshore developments that RDS are currently engaged on, including BP Clair Ridge in the UK North Sea, AIOCs West Chirag Oil Project in Azerbaijan, Exxon Mobil’s Hebron project in Canada and Woodside’s Browse LNG Project offshore Australia. This engineering award comes after an announcement in May by Statoil, to award KCA Deutag a four year contract in the Norwegian Continental Shelf for the provision of drilling operations, maintenance services, and engineering support, for a total of seven platform drilling rigs, bringing the total number of platforms KCA Deutag operates to 36 around the globe.

Simon Drew, Senior Vice-President for RDS, commented: "Statoil is a key client for both RDS and the wider KCA Deutag group and this contract win builds on the good relationship that is being established in both the Greenfield projects and the on-going Brownfield support to the existing fields in Norway."
