Ministry of Finance Supports Lebanon’s LIOG 2012

The Ministry of Finance joins a growing list of supporters of the Lebanon International Oil and Gas Summit (LIOG) taking place in December 2012, consolidating the summit’s strategic role.

The Lebanon International Oil and Gas Summit (LIOG 2012) confirmed this week that in addition to being held under the auspices of the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water, it is now also being held in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance Lebanon. The support of the Ministry of Finance comes as the result of the efforts by the summit’s organizers to present the event as a major strategic event for the emerging oil and gas industry in the East Mediterranean country.

According to the organizers, the Ministry’s collaboration will include a speech by the Minister of Finance, H.E. Mr. Mohammad Safadi during the opening ceremony and Ministry involvement will continue throughout the programme of the 2-day summit, which will include a full session on fiscal and taxation aspects of the oil and gas sector. This session is expected to be chaired by Mr. Alain Bifani, Director General of the Ministry.

The event has seen a surge of new speakers, sponsors and supporters join the programme in the last few days and this momentum is set to continue now that the Ministry of Finance has officially confirmed its support.

In addition to H.E. Minister Safadi, and Mr. Bifani, new speakers include Me. Gaby Daaboul, Advisor of Petroleum Affairs who will speak alongside confirmed speakers from the Ministry of Energy and Water including; the Speaker Patron H.E. Mr Gebran Bassil, Minister for Energy and Mr Wissam Chabt and Dr. Fadi Nader consultants at the Ministry.

Recently confirmed private sector speakers include, Dr. Naji Abi Aad, C.O.O, Petroleb Lebanon chairing the session on LNG Terminals; Dr Thorsten Ploss, Partner, Global Oil and Gas Centre of Excellence, Ernst and Young Middle East speaking on investing in Lebanon’s emerging oil and gas industry and Dr.Mostefa Ouki, Vice President Nexant chairing a session on international markets and their impact on Lebanese energy production. The speaker line up now includes over 15 international oil and gas experts who will lead sessions over the 2 days of the summit programme on the three main themes of Investment and Finance, Markets and Impacts.

LIOG also confirms new sponsors have signed up to the event. ‘’LIOG is delighted to announce that BB Energy, Hypco and CCE have signed to be the Gold Sponsors,‘’ explained Paul Gilbert, Managing Director, Global Event Partners Ltd, the event organizer.

The Lebanon International Oil and Gas Summit is a 2-day strategic oil and gas conference-taking place 3-4 December 2012 at the Phoenicia hotel, Beirut. The LIOG Summit programme is being finalized in partnership with the Ministry and the steering committee of private and public sector partners and supporters. The agenda will unite the leading regional and international oil and gas experts to examine the investment opportunities in the region, explore the current challenges and identify future solutions for the successful development of the oil and gas industry in Lebanon.
