New Environmental Symposium for O&G Industry by QP

Qatar Petroleum (QP) and the Japan Cooperation Centre, Petroleum (JCCP) opened the 2nd Joint Qatar-Japan Environment Symposium / 21st Joint GCC-Japan Environment Symposium with the theme “Sustainable Environment, Climate Change and Renewable Energy for the Oil and Gas Industry.”

The event, which is hosted by QP, is being held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP. Over the course of the two-day event, a strong lineup of speakers will discuss the environmental issues affecting the oil and gas industry, the programs and initiatives being implemented by petroleum companies, and the green technologies for the energy sector.

The opening of the event at Sharq Village & Spa was attended by many top officials of QP and JCCP, including Dr. Ali Hamed Abdulla Al-Mulla, Acting Manager for Corporate Health, Safety and Environment and Manager for Corporate Environment and Sustainable Development of QP, and Mr. Morihiro Yoshida, Managing Director of the JCCP.

“This event provides a platform for industry experts to communicate and exchange knowledge on a wide range of environmental issues and challenges and to provide better understanding of the improvement and rehabilitation of the environment through the utilization and application of innovative technologies,” said Dr. Al-Mulla.

The 2nd Joint Qatar-Japan Environment Symposium / 21st Joint GCC-Japan Environment Symposium has attracted the participation of over 150 delegates made up of industry professionals from Japan, Qatar, and other parts of the Middle East.

A total of 23 technical papers will be presented during the symposium, which has been divided into three sessions and one forum. The sessions will cover a wide range of environmental topics, including wastewater treatment, alternative energy sources, carbon capture and storage, and the protection of the marine environment. The forum, on the other hand, will focus on the best environmental practices in refineries.

QP is represented by six speakers in the symposium, and their presentations will discuss the Qatar Carbonates and Carbon Storage Research Centre, the flare mitigation efforts at its Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Complex in Mesaieed, the use of geospatial analyses in environmental planning, the status of marine life at North Field Alpha, and the implementation of the Zero-Liquid Discharge (ZLD) at the QP Refinery.

Formed in November 1981, the JCCP was established to promote technical cooperation and personnel exchanges with oil-producing countries in the downstream sectors of the oil industry. It presently has a total of 34 member companies consisting of Japanese oil refining and marketing firms, financial institutions and engineering firms.
