Within three months of its launch, Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat) Q.J.S.C. has become responsible for exporting 68.8 percent in volume of Qatar’s chemical and petrochemical products. This landmark achievement comes as the company completes the consolidation of the marketing, sales and distribution of SEEF Ltd products. It marks the third milestone in a comprehensive consolidation of marketing and distribution responsibilities for Qatar’s chemical and petrochemical industry products under one entity.

H.E. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Muntajat expressed great pleasure at the achievement. His Excellency said: “Muntajat will play a key role in achieving Qatar’s National Vision 2030 by contributing to social, human, economic and environmental development.”

Dr. Al-Sada added: “ the petrochemical industry is a key driver of Qatar’s growth, positioning the State as a global player in this sector. The downstream products created by gas feedstock are delivering value by diversifying Qatar’s export portfolio beyond LNG. In fact, Qatar is well positioned to become the world’s fourth largest chemical and petrochemical producer within the next decade through continued investment.” His Excellency concluded by stressing that the marketing of SEEF’s products by Muntajat is another step in the journey of raising the profile of the industry in Qatar and abroad.

Effective 1st April 2013, Muntajat has assumed sole responsibility for the marketing of Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) and Heavy Alkyl Benzene (HAB) produced by SEEF Ltd. LAB is a raw material used in the production of detergents, and is considered to be less environmentally impactful than other options.

Muntajat, which has started processing new orders for these products, has informed all existing SEEF Ltd customers about the new service relationship, and is conducting personal visits to ensure a seamless transition. It will create efficiencies in sales and distribution channels for Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) and Heavy Alkyl Benzene (HAB), which are produced by SEEF Ltd at its USD 300 million state-of-the-art complex adjacent to the Qatar Petroleum Refinery in Mesaieed.

Mr. Abdulrahman Ali Al-Abdulla, CEO of Muntajat, said: “With our portfolio of products now exceeding two thirds of Qatar’s chemical and petrochemical production capacity, Muntajat is on-track to achieve the transition of all regulated chemical and petrochemical products produced in the State by mid-year. Our team is committed to the continued supply of Qatar’s quality chemical and petrochemical products to its customers, and is dedicated to the long-term creation of value for all our stakeholders. Muntajat is supported in the field by a team of professionals, creating world-class support and technical infrastructure to service our customers world-wide.”

“We are proud to announce that since the first transition, Muntajat has processed a growing number of orders for customers in Australia, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, India, the UAE and South Africa to deliver QAFAC and QAFCO produced products,” added Mr. Al-Abdulla.

Mr. Ahmed Al-Hitmi, General Manager of SEEF Ltd, said: “SEEF is proud to be part of Qatar's dynamic growth and investment strategy in the petrochemical industry. Our vision, to be a world leader in the production of LAB and HAB, will be enhanced via the new channel relationship with Muntajat. We look to increase Qatar’s share of global LAB production as the market for the product grows to cater to the demand for biodegradable Linear Alkyl Benzene.”

Since its establishment in August 2012, Muntajat has been finalising the necessary approvals as well as consulting all nine operating entities in Qatar’s chemical and petrochemical industry to prepare for a full transition of their sales, marketing and distribution functions to Muntajat.

The first consolidation milestone was reached in early February 2013, when Muntajat took over all marketing and distribution functions of Qatar Fuel Additives Company Limited (QAFAC). Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), representing the second milestone, followed suit in March. Muntajat is on track to complete the full consolidation of all nine entities by mid-2013.

Muntajat was established by Minister of Business and Trade Decision 54/2012 in August, 2012. By the Decree Law 11/2012, Muntajat is empowered to be exclusively responsible for Qatar's chemical and petrochemical exports, by consolidating marketing and distribution efforts into a single entity to meet the needs of customers worldwide.
