Marubeni Corporation (Marubeni) and Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) have jointly established Seajacks Japan Limited, a 100% group company of Seajacks International Limited (UK; jointly acquired by Marubeni and INCJ in May 2012) to cover and develop the offshore wind installation market in Japan and the Asian countries.
In Japan the offshore wind market is increasingly attracting focus as one of the next major sources of renewable energy. There are several projects in Japan and many more in other Asian countries planned with the backup of governmental supports, and it is expected that the Asian offshore wind market will continue to grow to rank with the huge European market in the future.
Marubeni took an equity stake in Gunfleet Sands (UK) offshore wind farm in 2011, and acquired Seajacks International Limited jointly with INCJ in May of 2012. Seajacks has a track record of over 830MW of turbines installed in European waters, and is currently constructing an additional 288MW at the Meerwind Offshore Wind Power Project in Germany. Marubeni and INCJ aim to support the growth of Japanese and Asian offshore wind markets by introducing their experience and know-how to the region, and also by early involvement of Seajacks’ existing self-propelled jack up vessels to the Asian market.
Marubeni has a track record of over 96,000MW of installed capacity in global Power EPC (*1) projects, and also as the largest International IPP player in Japan, we own and operate a total Gross Capacity of approx. 30,000MW, Net Capacity of approx. 9.000MW worldwide (*2). Also Marubeni has expanded its service line to the after-sales service and, operations and maintenance of power plants. Among Marubeni’s focus in the renewable energy sector, the offshore wind market is especially expected to grow rapidly due to the high potential of realization of larger scale turbines and projects. Marubeni will continue to expand its presence along the supply chain.
