Majis has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman International Petrochemical Industry Company (OIPIC) (under foundation) to provide them with 3,500 m3/day of Industrial water for their upcoming Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) and Poly Ethylene Terephthalate (PET) project which is expected to be operational by the end of 2016. Majis provides the entire range of water utility services to the tenants at Sohar Industrial Port Area (SIPA).
Eng. Rahma Bint Hamed Al Musharfafi, Chief Executive Officer of Majis, said that Majis will build a new Reverse Osmosis based desalination plant at SIPA for the purpose. She went on to add that this is a prestigious project for Majis and signing of this MoU is a reflection on the confidence industries have in obtaining cost effective and reliable water utility services from Majis. Majis owns and operates a seawater pumping station which will feed seawater for desalination to produce industrial water. OIPIC is a joint venture company under formation which will be owned 50 per cent by Oman Oil Company, 20 per cent by Takamul Investment Company and 30 per cent LG, Korea. The project will be completed in two phases to produce a total of 1.1 million tons of PTA and 500,000 tons of PET per annum.
