The First Shale Gas Well Drilled in Ukraine

Source: 9/21/2013, Location: Asia

Royal Dutch Shell has drilled the first well for the shale gas production in Ukraine. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said at the YES X International Conference in Yalta.

However, the Prime Minister said that Royal Dutch Shell had offered Ukraine its modern technologies to recover the extraction of hydrocarbons at the depleted fields during his working visit to the Netherlands and the meeting with the company last week. "These deposits are depleted in terms of technology the 60th of the last century, but not exhausted in terms of today's technological capabilities. Therefore, we expect that our deposits preserved in Kharkiv and Sumy regions that used to give Ukraine 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas as a result of the introduction of modern technologies allow us to produce large volumes of gas," Mykola Azarov said.
