Oman Gas Company (OGC), the Sultanate’s principal natural gas transportation utility, recently took delivery of its first largest shipment of pipelines via the strategically located Port of Duqm. The shipment, comprising 85 kilometres of 32-inch pipelines, will be utilised in OGC’s pipeline expansion projects. OGC is undertaking significant expansion of its gas transportation infrastructure to help in the development of the country’s gas sector. This expansion is being carried out through a series of projects presently under way in different areas of the Sultanate. These expansion projects are in line with the company’s mission and vision to be a world-class midstream gas value chain company in Oman and also to contribute to the country’s value by developing and operating oil and gas facilities to international standards through innovation, efficiency and development of local talent.

To support the development of the country with regards to its oil and gas business, the Port of Duqm is positioning itself as the preferred gateway for project cargo and general cargo related to this industry. The port is currently finalising the purchase of specific equipment to handle oil and gas related cargo. Since its inception in 2000, OGC has grown in stature and reputation from a gas transportation company into an integrated enterprise harnessing the power of Oman’s natural gas transportation. The company employs about 333 people, of whom 95 per cent are Omanis. It is the major gas transportation company in Oman delivering natural gas to main economic sectors and major consumers comprising of domestic, power and desalination plants, fertilizer, methanol, petrochemical, refinery, steel and cement plants.

The Port of Duqm has officially started its “soft operation” since March 2013 and currently employs around 90 persons, the large majority of them nationals. Port of Duqm Company (PDC) is a Joint Venture (50/50) company between Government of Oman (GOSO) and Consortium Antwerp Port (CAP). PDC was formed in August 2010 to manage and operate port of Duqm. PDC is also responsible for developing and managing the port industrial area at Duqm.
