On the afternoon of October 10, China Offshore Engineering Symposium 2013 (COES2013) was held in Beijing. The
symposium was themed with Going Deepwater and Arctic to Sustain Offshore Growth –Turning Vision into Reality and
discussed business opportunities for offshore oil & gas industry from international environment and domestic opportunities.
Adhering to the direction of “brining in and going global” in China’s offshore engineering industry, COES2013 shared
demands for various technical equipment, construction focus and cooperation opportunities in the industry, and offered a rare
chance for domestic enterprises and institutions focusing on offshore engineering market to communicate. It promoted the
participants to communicate profoundly and extensively on development of the offshore engineering industry and to make
the vision of sound offshore engineering development come true.
It’s introduced that COES2013, which was hosted by BMC China Exhibition Co., Ltd. and in association with China
Association of National Shipbuilding Industry. attracted approximately 300 participants, including senior executives
and institutional representatives from domestic and foreign offshore engineering enterprises, setting a historical high in
size. Mr. Wang Jinlian, secretary general of China Association of National Shipbuilding Industry addressed the opening
ceremony as president. He introduced relevant policies on promoting China offshore engineering technology development
and equipment development in the Speeding up Structure Adjustment of Ship Industry to Promote the Implementation of
Transformation and Upgrading (2013-2015), and interpreted relevant requirements and policies on offshore engineering
equipment manufacturing in China.Liu Guizhe, Chief Researcher of China Shipbuilding Industry Research Center introduced
some development conditions of China’s offshore engineering equipment and medium- and long-term forecasts for the
offshore engineering equipment manufacturing industry, analyzed competitiveness of South Korea and Singapore in offshore
engineering equipment manufacturing, and raised the tests and risks in the development of China’s offshore engineering
equipment manufacturing industry. At the symposium, a lot of guests made extensive and profound communication on
building modern offshore engineering equipment, ushering in optimized deep-water oil & gas exploration technology,
enhancing offshore marine engineering management level, promoting innovative engineering solutions, and developing
offshore engineering equipment by financing lease according to development experiences in respective production fields
and industries, and analyzed problems like excessive low-end offshore engineering equipment products and inadequate
supporting ability.
The participants represented by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and China Classification Society (CCS) also introduced
development status of foreign offshore engineering industry, new technologies, project management, structural reliability of
fixed platform, floating production system, and application of special materials. Executives from COSCO Shipyard Group
and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd also discussed the growth of emerging offshore engineering enterprises.
It’s learned that during the two-day symposium, the guests also interacted in various forms and had several forums. Most
participants said they would continue to follow up with the COES 2014.
