In March 2003, Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation concluded a basic agreement with Mitsui O.S.K Lines for an LNG carrier with a capacity of 145,000m3. Two 145,000m3 carrier orders had already been received from Mitsui O.S.K Lines (For Oman and Algeria, both co-owned) and this marks the third informal order placed for this type of vessel.

Moreover, Kawasaki Shipbuilding and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. received an order for one 145,000m3 carrier with the option for another purchase from the Oman government in July. The first carrier will be built at Kawasaki Shipbuilding’s Sakaide Shipyard and delivery is scheduled for December 2005 with the optional second carrier being built at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The vessels are LNG carriers that have 4 spherical Moss type tanks with a total cargo tank capacity of 145,000m3, developed by Kawasaki Shipbuilding. The successive orders evidenced our technological strengths accumulated through long experience in building and maintaining LNG carriers. The superiority of this type of ship is clear, with a large capacity while being within the required ship size for entry into the world’s major LNG terminals.
