Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation delivered four new LPG carriers, the Berge Nice, Berge Nantes, Clipper Moon and Clipper Sky, in September, October and December 2003 and March 2004, respectively. They are the second to the fifth in a five-ship series of 59,000m3 LPG carriers ordered by Solvang ASA and Bergesen D.Y. ASA.
These ultra-advanced LPG carriers are capable of transporting butane and propane as well as ammonia and other chemical gases. They feature four independent prismatic cargo tanks in cargo hold compartments for the storage of lower-temperature liquefied gas.
Kawasaki’s new bow form, SEA-Arrow (Sharp Entrance Angle bow as an Arrow), is deployed in the carriers to minimize bow wave resistance and to improve propulsive performance significantly. With these latest deliveries, Kawasaki’s LPG carrier total has now reached 37.
