Petroleum Minister Agrees to Import Natural Gas by Private Sector

Eng Sharif Ismail, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, said the ministry is ready to provide all the facilities to the private companies if they wish to import gas from abroad.

He also explained that the ministry does not have any objection to the approval of any application made by the private companies to import gas either for its own account or to sell to other private sector companies, pointing to the willingness of the petroleum sector to allow these companies using the facilities receive imported gas ports of the sector as well as gas transmission lines across the national network of gas against the tariff to be agreed upon in the interest of both parties.

The minister said that during the next few days will announce the result of the practice put forward by Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS) and private boat receiving the gas that will be imported port of Ain Sukhna, adding that the sector is negotiating with a number of international companies to import large quantities of gas to save fuel necessary for power plants starting next May.
