The final transformer for a major project in Sweden has been completed and despatched from Alstom's transformer manufacturing facility in Stafford. The thirteenth and final transformer will play an integral part in Sveska Kraftnat's South West Link, which will connect Barkeryd in central Sweden to Hurva in southern Sweden, using Alstom's innovative HVDC technology.

Alstom's facility in Stafford has finished building the transformers for the project, together with the VSC technology that will be used in the converter stations, with the VSC kit produced at the MaxSine Centre in the town. As part of the wider project, Alstom will supply HVDC converter stations at both ends of the power line, as well as control and protection, converter transformers, switchyard equipment, construction and project management.

The transformer weighs 205 tonnes and took two days to complete the journey from Stafford to the port at Liverpool ready for despatch to Sweden by sea.

The South-West Link project is expected to be complete by the end of 2014.
