On July 9-10, the fourth China Offshore Engineering Symposium (COES2014) was held in Beijing. The symposium, themed with Going Deep – Global Challenges and Local Perspectives for Offshore Engineering Industry, elaborated on offshore oil and gas industry from the current domestic political environment, the status quo of South China Sea, and the global offshore engineering equipment development, especially on the promising market opportunities of deepwater offshore engineering equipment. It offered an unparalleled chance and platform for Chinese offshore enterprises to deepen international communication and cooperation.

COES2014, which was hosted by BMC China Exhibition Co., Ltd. and in association with China Association of National Shipbuilding Industry and CNOOC attracted approximately 400 participants from more than 100 oil and gas companies, offshore engineering design and construction companies and organizations home and abroad, setting a historical high in size. Adhering to the philosophy of the organizer BMC China’s “Delve into industry to deliver value”, the symposium was engaged by discussions on technology and equipment demands, construction technology, cooperation opportunity for deepwater offshore engineering, and offered opportunities for the participating enterprises and organizations which focused on the sector. .

At the symposium, Mr. Wang Jinlian, secretary general of China Association of National Shipbuilding Industry introduced “Implementation Plan of Marine Engineering Equipment and Project”, and its related policy of offshore technology and equipment development. He addressed on the project objective, main task, and elaborated on the related requirement and support policy of China’s offshore engineering equipment construction. Mr Li Yanqing, director of China Shipbuilding Information Center introduced some development conditions of China’s offshore engineering equipment and mid- long term forecast for the offshore engineering equipment manufacturing industry, analyzed competitiveness of South Korea, Singapore and China in offshore engineering equipment manufacturing, and raised the challenges in the development of China’s offshore engineering equipment manufacturing industry. .

As China South Sea has become the hot topic of the industry, at the symposium, many speakers made extensive and profound communication on building modern offshore engineering equipment, optimizing deep-water oil & gas exploration technology, enhancing offshore marine engineering management level to meet the challenges ahead of global offshore engineering equipment market development according to experiences gained in respective production fields and industries. Mr Li Jianmin, manager of deepwater engineering management, engineering dept. of CNOOC, reviewed the development history of China offshore oil equipment, and introduced CNOOC’s strategic plan, development mode, facing challenges of its quickened pace on South China Sea oil and gas exploitation, as well as construction situation of deepwater vessels. Starting from the status quo of China's offshore engineering deepwater business development, Mr Li Shumin, deputy chief engineer of COOEC, put forward his own suggestions and countermeasures on the aspect of the improvement of technology ability, equipment implementation capacity and project management ability through the analysis of bottleneck questions in terms of technology and equipment on national deepwater business development. He also analyzed problems like excessive low-end offshore engineering equipment products and inadequate supporting ability. During the conference, the speakers also made a dedicated in-depth discussion on the optimal development scheme for deepwater South China Sea. .

At the same time, issues such as: global floating production system and the research of maritime technology were also discussed between the speakers from Energy Maritime Association, ABS, China Ocean University and Other institutions and enterprises at home and abroad. In addition, the senior executives from MODEC, SBM Offshore and Technip shared ideas and information on TLP design and its application in South China Sea. .

It’s learned that during the two-day symposium, 12 enterprises such as Technip MHB Saipem Huisman MODEC COOEC BOMCO RICHTECH Aggreko Josun HILTI tecsis Atlas Copco also had booth to display their latest products and technologies. Most participants said they would continue to follow up with the COES 2015.
