Bell Technologies, LLC introduces its newest measurement device, the VTDensitometer™ (VTD). The stand-alone densitometer operates on the resonance principle. Its unique design allows for a compact, relatively lightweight product that gives the customers great installation flexibility.
Solutions and Applications
Given the high cost of drilling mud (approximately ten per cent of a well’s overall cost), rig operators can now accurately measure their mud usage and density, aiding in cost accountability and tailoring the drilling process to the formation. Having data presented in realtime gives engineers an important tool to modify mud components as the formation pressure and structure varies. Drilling mud measurement is one of the harshest environments in all of density measurement. Both oil- and water-based mud are compatible with whichever meter design the client chooses.
In recent years, hydraulic fracturing of shale formations has produced new supplies of oil and gas. The VTD unit can measure such fluids in varying compositions and concentrations.
Density measurement is also critical in the acid treatment after a well has been drilled. A densitometer is used to determine the acid concentration before reaching the flow line. Product components are tailored to the process for maximum life expectancy.
In liquid hydrocarbon pipelines, density measurement is critical for interface detection. A density change indicates that an interface of two fluids has been detected so proper downstream valve adjustments can be made. With a line-size unit, density measurement happens in real-time thus adding to accuracy.
