Sakhalin Energy Off Loaded the 900th Cargo of LNG

Source: 1/20/2015, Location: Asia

Early this year, Sakhalin Energy offloaded the 900th cargo of LNG. For nearly six years, the Prigorodnoye production complex has been operating with a very high level of safety provided, delivering hydrocarbons to customers of the Asia-Pacific Region.

The milestone LNG cargo of 145 thousand cubic metres, intended for the Japanese company Kushyu Electric Power, was offloaded to the customer on board the Grand Aniva LNG carrier.

Sakhalin Energy always strives to maintain good relations with its customers, as well as to explore their needs, enhance communication and make mutually beneficial decisions. Partnership relations with Kushyu Electric Power started in 2004; and fifty-five (55) cargoes have already been delivered to this customer since the LNG plant was put into operation.

Sakhalin LNG has been delivered to quite a few countries: Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, India and even Kuwait. Due to the company, Russia has become one of the key players at the prospective market of the Asia-Pacific Region. Sakhalin Energy’s LNG plant provides over four percent of the global LNG supply.

Construction of the LNG plant was launched in 2003. And at once it captured attention of many stakeholders. People did not believe into large scale construction projects and Sakhalin attracted only the curious people. The technical interest to the project was revealed later, and it has not failed for six years since the plant launch. Visits of the high rank guests continue: Alexander Novak, Russia's Minister of Energy, Ben van Beurden, Shell CEO, ambassadors representing different states and directors of well known companies - all of them visited the Prigorodnoye production complex.

From 2005 till 2014 the complex hosted almost 1000 visits and about 15 thousand people. Some of the guests are interested in technilogies and they get amused to realise that such huge and complex asset is controled by a number of operators via control room. Some visitors admire the scale and duration of construction, others take over the experience for future LNg projects in Russia.

According to Peter Norman, LNG/OET/TLU/ Manager, the year 2014 was quite difficult in terms of production reliability, however, we have fulfilled the annual plan of LNG supplies, and the main thing is that the customers have not lost confidence in reliability of our company as an energy source supplier.
