The PSA has decided to initiate an investigation following a fire involving the generation of fumes on the production vessel Petrojarl Knarr FPSO in the Knarr Field in the North Sea on 24 March. The incident on the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO was discovered at 1.45am on 24 March. The fire began in an HVAC room (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) on the fourth deck of the vessel's foredeck.

The Petrojarl Knarr FPSO is located in the Knarr Field in the North Sea, around 50 kilometres north-east of the Snorre Field. BG Norge is the operator for the field, while Teekay Petrojarl Production AS is responsible for operating the vessel. Production at the field began in March 2015.

There were 100 people onboard the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO at the time the incident occurred. Personnel mustered at the lifeboats. The fire was apparently extinguished at 2.28am.

The PSA has decided to initiate an investigation of the incident. The objects of the investigation include clarifying the chain of events and identifying proximate and underlying causes. The investigation will result in a report that will be published on ptil.no.
