Azerbaijani Delegation Visits Romania

Azerbaijani delegation, being on a visit to Romania to participate in the meeting of Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (AGRI) project member states, visited the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the Tei Park - Heydar Aliyev Alley on June 23. Afterwards, the delegation met with Andrei Dominic Gerea, Romanian Minister of Energy, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, and Business Environment. Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Natig Aliyev spoke about successfully developing political and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Romania and gave detailed information on achievements of the country in energy sphere, and latest novelties in the Southern Gas Corridor Project. Minister Natig Aliyev and SOCARís Deputy Vice-president for investments and marketing Vitaliy Baylarbayov placed a high value on the results of AGRI Project. It was noted that along with being a key part of the Southern Gas Corridor, AGRI Project could contribute to the diversification of transportation routes of the Caspian gas. The participants also touched upon the operations of SOCAR in Romania including Companyís investments. Romanian Minister of Energy, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, and Business Environment spoke about realized gas projects in Romania and emphasized the need for alternative gas projects for Europe. According to him, the realization of the AGRI Project will enable Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, and other Eastern European and Balkan states to import Azerbaijani gas in the future. The Minister praised SOCARís activities in Romania and expressed gratitude for the investments in his country. SOCARís Deputy Vice-president for investments and marketing Vitaliy Baylarbayov briefed on the works carried out in Shah Deniz-2 project, Absheron, Umid, and other fields. On June 24, the energy ministers of AGRI project member states came together in Bucharest to discuss the positions of member countries in realization of the project, final results of feasibility study, and financing opportunities of the project. Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Natig Aliyev spoke about socio-economic importance of AGRI project. Georgiaís Deputy Energy Minister Mariam Valishvili informed on importance and support for AGRI project. UKís PENSPEN made a brief presentation on feasibility study of AGRI Project. Joe Murphy, BPís Vice President Southern Corridor for Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (AGT) Region, stated that AGRI Project should be viewed as an additional component of the Southern Gas Corridor and pointed out the importance of preparing the legal, economic and technical documents for effective realizations of the project. A Joint Declaration, signed at the end of the event, reflected a support for the development of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (AGRI) project.
