Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, recently expanded its global capabilities, enhancing its industry-leading breadth of services and response time for lighting manufacturers with a new accreditation in Brazil. In July, Intertek’s Sao Paulo facility was accredited by the National Institute of Metrology, Quality, and Technology (INMETRO) as a certification body for LED lamps with integrated control device to the base. This facility recognition, along with existing capabilities worldwide, strengthens the capacity of Intertek’s robust global network of laboratories conducting lighting testing and certification.

“Intertek is committed to expanding our breadth of services and laboratory capabilities to support manufacturers’ need to quickly launch new products in the global marketplace,” said Carl Bloomfield, Global Director of Business Services for the lighting industry at Intertek. “With this accreditation, customers will now experience faster timeframes when developing or launching lighting products for the Brazilian marketplace.”

Over the past five years there has been strong demand for solid state lighting in South America and Intertek continues to expand its facilities to support these growing demands in the region. Brazilian lighting manufacturers and those considering export to the Brazil should conduct market-specific product testing in compliance with INMETRO Directive 389/2014. This directive established new mandatory quality technical requirements for LED lamps with an integrated control device, with a focus on safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and energy efficiency.

Given Intertek’s wide range of lighting capabilities, testing for the Brazilian marketplace can be done concurrently with testing to the safety, performance, or energy efficiency requirements of other markets. Intertek’s industry-leading network and breadth of services provide a single source for global quality assurance that allows manufacturers to quickly develop and launch innovative new products.
