SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev received Minister for Foreign and Political Affairs of San Marino Pasquale Valentini on September 8. Welcoming the guest, Mr Abdullayev spoke about SOCAR’s role in the economy of Azerbaijan, oil and gas projects implemented in the country, including the Southern Gas Corridor project to export natural gas volumes from the Caspian Sea to Europe and pointed out the importance of this project for European countries.
Expressing gratitude for sincere welcome, Minister Pasquale Valentini stated that currently Italian companies supply his country with natural gas and oil and they are interested in the launch of the Southern Gas Corridor. Noting the global importance of energy issues, the minister mentioned the opportunities for European countries to receive alternative gas sources by means of this project and the importance of the Southern Gas Corridor in the diversification of energy sources.
He also spoke about the discussion with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev regarding the expansion of mutual ties between the countries.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views upon other issues of mutual interest.
