SIBUR Attended Ceremony Marking Start of Amur GPP Construction

Source: 10/14/2015, Location: Asia

Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom's Management Committee, and Dmitry Konov, SIBUR's CEO, attended the celebrations to mark the start of construction of Gazprom's Amur Gas Processing Plant (GPP).

The event took place in Svobodnensly District of the Amur Region. The groundbreaking was commanded by President Vladimir Putin via a video conference from the Vostochny spaceport.

Amur GPP will become the largest gas processing plant in Russia and one of the largest gas processing facilities in the world. The plant's annual design capacity will be up to 49 bcm, and the GPP will also include the world's largest helium production facility, with an annual capacity of up to 60 mcm.

Amur GPP will produce multi-component gas mixtures using natural gas from fields in Yakutia and the Irkutsk Region (the gas production centres developed by Gazprom under the Eastern Gas Programme) through the Power of Siberia pipeline. The products will include methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane-hexane fraction and helium. Processes at Gazprom's Amur GPP will be linked to the future deep hydrocarbon conversion facility currently under consideration at SIBUR.

Earlier, Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk (owner of the Amur GPP construction project, part of Gazprom Group) and NIPIgaspererabotka (part of SIBUR) signed a contract to become partners to design, coordinate equipment supplies, and manage construction at the Amur GPP project. The GPP will be located near the town of Svobodny in the Amur Region.

Under the agreement, NIPIgaspererabotka, as a contractor, will draft the necessary documents, arrange supplies of equipment and materials, perform construction and installation, and transfer the ready-to-be-commissioned plant to Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk. The GPP's lines will be commissioned gradually, in sync with the build-up of Gazprom's upstream capacities in Yakutia and the Irkutsk Region.

"During the past few years, SIBUR and its design centre have built a management team with the right competences and expertise for large-scale projects, delivering capabilities that are required by the market today. We are happy to contribute to the Amur GPP project and help it evolve into a major deep hydrocarbon conversion facility in Russia, while at the same time making the Amur Region one of the most vibrant industrial hubs with technological innovations," commented Dmitry Konov.
