PAO Severstal, one of the world’s leading vertically integrated steel and steel-mining companies, has begun refurbishment of the four-stand cold rolling mill at Cherepovets Steel Mill (CherMK), one of the largest integrated steel plants in the world.
During the next three months an old unit will be disassembled and new equipment will be installed. Work involving approximately 500 specialists will continue around the clock. The main supplier of the new processing equipment is SMS Siemag AG.
Sergey Toropov, CEO of Severstal’s Russian Steel division, said: “The estimated cost of the project is around 3 billion rubles. This refurbishment will increase mill capacity to 200 kt per annum and significantly improve product quality, enabling the company to expand their product line and enter new markets. The upgraded four-stand cold rolled mill is designed to produce metal for the automotive industry, white goods and other industries”.
The infrastructure required for the refurbishment has already been installed.
