CAPE VI, the 6th edition of the triennial African Petroleum, will take place in Abuja, Nigeria, against the backdrop of low oil prices, resulting in significant knock on effects for the economies of the eighteen member states of the African Petroleum Producers (APPA). CAPE VI is therefore, the most strategically important edition of the Africa’s leading petroleum congress, as key government, institutional and private sector petroleum stakeholders, will come together to take both long-term and short-term positions on the continents oil and gas sector.
In December 2015 at the CAPE VI launch press conference, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, stated that it is essential for African petroleum producers to work together in these turbulent times to develop resources, share expertise and technology, in order to cut production costs. He highlighted that due to the aforementioned points, CAPE VI was the perfect platform to bring everyone together, to respond to this challenge.
He also stated that “Nigeria was a key founding member of APPA and a promoter of the African Petroleum Congress. We hope that the event will highlight the nation’s oil and gas potential to a global audience and help showcase Nigeria’s small and medium scale oil and gas companies to other African countries and world at large,”
CAPE VI is supported at the highest level and will be opened by His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which again demonstrates the importance that the Federal Republic of Nigeria attributes to this event. At the same time, CAPE VI will welcome the eighteen member states of APPA (Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Libya, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, and Sudan), including their Ministers and National Oil Companies. All the exploration and service companies active in Africa have been invited to the event, alongside Africa’s indigenous companies, to create a multi-layered audience.
CAPE VI will feature a three day conference whose main theme is: “Positioning African Petroleum for global development and value addition“
