Addax Petroleum has acquired the Paradigm Pore Pressure Prediction module to complement its Paradigm suite of products, which includes Paradigm SKUA-GOCAD™, Geolog® and EarthStudy 360®. The module has been embedded in Geolog as Addax Petroleum’s corporate tool for pore pressure prediction.
The Geolog log-based pore pressure prediction module provides tools to predict pore and fracture pressure profiles in wells based on logging data. Following data preparation and compaction trend analysis, the Geolog pore pressure prediction module calculates hydrostatic pressure, overburden pressure, pore pressure, and fracture pressure in a single multi-tab program.
In order to customize the solution to the customer’s needs, Paradigm developers worked closely with Addax Petroleum to expand the module’s functionality. A single, full workflow interface was quickly implemented, and more than twenty new features, including additional methods for modeling missing input log data, new compaction trend options, pore pressure evaluation from multiple logs, and fracture pressure calibration, were added. A variety of options, such as detailed output reports and isodensity line computation, were also developed.
Pablo Pascual, Paradigm Vice President for Europe, CIS, Africa and Latin America said, “The customization work we did with Addax Petroleum is an example of the close collaboration between Paradigm and its customers in gathering key requests, working together on feature specifications, and applying them with maximum flexibility. This is a win-win situation, in which Addax Petroleum received the best solution to its needs, and Paradigm was able to enhance and improve its product.”
Serge Marnat, Technical Services Manager at Addax Petroleum said, “The close collaboration with Paradigm’s developers allowed quick development of a fit-for-purpose solution for Pore Pressure and Fracture Gradient prediction and follow-up. It helped us perform successful drilling in a challenging HP well offshore West Africa.”
