SIBUR Commissions Stage 2 of Vyngapurovsky GPP Ramping up Infrastructure for APG

SIBUR has completed a comprehensive project intended to build up the associated petroleum gas (APG) processing capacity at the Vyngapurovsky Gas Processing Plant. The opening ceremony was attended by Dmitry Kobylkin, Governor of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, and Dmitry Konov, Chairman of SIBUR's Management Board.

RussNeft's APG, a by-product of oil production, is delivered to the Varieganskaya compressor station and then transported to the Vyngapurovsky GPP via the pipeline between the two facilities. Dry gas from the GPP is supplied to Gazprom's gas transportation system, and natural gas liquids (NGL) are fed to the Noyabrsk loading rack and Purovsk – Tobolsk pipeline for further advanced conversion into polymers and other petrochemicals.

The project included boosting the annual APG processing capacity at the Vyngapurovsky GPP from 2.8 to 4.2 bcm (with the recovery rate of up to 99%, in line with the best global practices), constructing the 114 km pipeline between the Varieganskaya compressor station and Vyngapurovsky GPP, and upgrading the compressor station. NGL output will grow by up to 400 ktpa.

To implement the project, Russian technologies and equipment were widely used. LENNIIKHIMMASH was the general designer of the new gas processing unit, while NIPIgaspererabotka, a leading Russian centre for facility design, engineering and development, acted as the general designer to upgrade the Varieganskaya compressor station and construct the pipeline. Such companies as Neftegazmontazhavtomatika, GlavNeftMontazh Building and Installation Holding, AS-Engineering, Montazhsibstroy, Stroytransgaz-Sever, Severdorstroy and Avtokran-Tyumen were involved in the construction, with the contractors' personnel totalling 1,300 people. The new facility created over 60 new jobs.

SIBUR's investment in the project amounted to RUB 16 bn.

Ongoing expansion and modernisation of gas processing and petrochemical facilities and transport infrastructure enabled SIBUR to boost APG processing capacity from 8.3 bcm in 2002 to 21.5 bcm in 2015. Over the recent years, the Company has built and brought on-stream gas processing facilities with a total capacity exceeding 10 bcm, and more than 1,700 km of pipelines in West Siberia.

The expansion of Vyngapurovsky GPP indicates the completion of APG collection and processing infrastructure development in West Siberia. In the last 10 years, SIBUR doubled APG processing capacities in the region and increased the recovery rate, bringing it in line with global best practices. It contributed to the dramatic environmental improvement in the Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Areas and helped build up the Russian petrochemical resource base,” said Dmitry Konov, Chairman of SIBUR's Management Board.
