The Indonesian energy landscape is going through a “business revolution” all to a positive note. Helmed by two newly appointed high-calibre leaders, Ignasius Jonan as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and Arcandra Tahar as Deputy Minister, Indonesia’s Ministry of Mineral and Energy Resources (ESDM) has put in place a couple of reforms and administered policies to revive the industry. Priorities for the duo include capacity building, ensuring the success of the 35,000MW program, reducing and equalising gas prices especially for remote Indonesian provinces, and bringing back business confidence to invest in the energy sector.

Set against the backdrop of this new leadership, Gas Indonesia Summit and Exhibition (GIS) 2017 returns for its second edition. Originally planned to be held from 17 to 19 January 2017 at the Jakarta Convention Center, GIS 2017 is now scheduled to take place between 12 to 14 July 2017 in light of recent market developments.

Christopher Hudson, President of organiser dmg :: events global energy said, “The gas and LNG market in Indonesia and Asia is huge and full of potential. After numerous consultation with key stakeholders in the Indonesian gas and LNG industry and due to recent market developments, we have decided for the benefit of our exhibitors and visitors to postpone the show until July 2017.”

Addressing the dynamics playing out in the gas and LNG industry in the region, GIS 2017 comes at a critical point for Indonesia's gas market and the urgency to shift the current paradigms impacting the Indonesian gas and LNG industry is asserted with the official support for the event from SKK MIGAS. Themed “Advancing Indonesia’s gas & LNG industry”, GIS 2017 will provide crucial market updates on PLN’s power tender, what are the map of opportunities for small to large scale infrastructure development from the upstream to the downstream gas and LNG sector in Indonesia, as well as updates on Indonesia’s revision to 2015 gas regulation.

GIS 2017 will be a level-playing field creating new avenues for bilateral trade and investment as well as being a knowledge and information exchange platform during the three-day summit. GIS 2017 will also bring with it an enhanced agenda with a strong emphasis on the governmental and key stakeholders’ outlook on how they can collaborate to propel and unify the Indonesian as well as the region’s gas and LNG industry.

The Summit will feature visionary thought-leadership keynotes, thought-provoking interactive panel discussions, topical in-depth commercial and technical sessions presented by industry leaders and subject matter experts, and for the first time, the Investment Forum, a unique platform for international companies to get an in-depth understanding of how to provide their technologies and services to the buyers in Indonesia. Summit participants can look forward to engaging in discussions on opportunities for the gas and LNG value chain, market updates on PLN’s 35,000MW Program, gas pricing, small-scale LNG developments, LNG asset management and maintenance, which are key issues contributing towards growth prospects and sustainability of the gas and LNG industry.

Confirmed speakers include Amien Sunaryadi, Chairman of SKK Migas; Didik Sasongko, Vice President LNG of Pertamina, Yuki Sadamitsu, Director Petroleum and Natural Gas Division of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI); Chairani Rachmatullah, Head of Oil & Gas Division of Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN); SungHee Hong, President of DongHwa Entec; Dr. Ernest Poku, Senior Manager, Operations and Development of Ophir Energy Indonesia; Katz Sato, Vice President of Osaka Gas Singapore; and many more.

“Gas Indonesia Summit & Exhibition is definitely an integral part of the Indonesian government’s ongoing efforts to raise the industry’s profile and technical expertise among the gas and LNG communities in Indonesia and the region,” said Chairani Rachmatullah, Head of Oil & Gas Division of Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).

GIS 2017 will also bring with it competitive market opportunities for the region’s gas and LNG industry, one that is backed by growing demands. The importance of GIS 2017 as an arena for the display of the latest technologies and solutions from the gas and LNG sector will be further highlighted by its expected participation of over 100 exhibitors and over 3,000 participants, mainly from the developing gas and LNG economies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Japan to the three-day exhibition.

With the fiscal incentives rolled out by the Indonesian government for the gas and LNG industry and the local shipbuilding industry, an exponential growth in the local energy and maritime markets can be expected. GIS 2017 look forward to welcome its exhibitors participating in the exhibition, including energy majors like Pertamina, SKK Migas, AG&P, Mokveld Valves, PT Parama Nusa Utama, BNF Engineering Singapore and PT Pratiwi Putri Sulung among others.
