Ingalls Shipbuilding, a client of design and engineering software solution provider SSI, launched the big-deck amphibious assault ship Tripoli (LHA 7) on May 1, 2017. This was thirteen weeks ahead of the original construction schedule.
Most Navies would call this an Aircraft Carrier
At approximately 45,000 long tons, the LHA 7 is similar in size to the French Charles de Gaulle and the Indian Vikramaditya fixed-wing aircraft carriers and is of a comparable displacement to the former US Navy Midway-class aircraft carriers. The LHA 7 is part of the US Navy’s America-class of amphibious assault ships and it is designed to put ashore and support a Marine Expeditionary Unit using helicopters and V/STOL aircraft.
Ingalls and SSI software
Significant increases in efficiency at Ingalls can be traced to SSI software products such as ShipConstructor and EnterprisePlatform. ShipConstructor is an AutoCAD based CAD/CAM product line for design and engineering of ship and offshore projects. EnterprisePlatform is a software product line for leveraging engineering information from a product data model and then turning data into action.
