On July 14, 2017, Marubeni Corporation (Marubeni), in a consortium with General Electric (GE) and PT. Hutama Karya (HK), has been awarded an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract for the Tambak Lorok Combined Cycle Power Plant Block 3 Project from PT Indonesia Power (Persero) (IP), a 100% subsidiary of state-owned power utility company PT. PLN (Persero) (PLN).

This power plant, which has an EPC contract value of approximately 41 billion Japanese yen, will be the largest power project developed by IP, producing approximately 780MW of electricity. The project construction site is located in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. This new power plant will be constructed beside the existing power plants, and is targeted to be completed in 2020.

This is a full turn-key project and the scope of Marubeni, GE and HK consortium for this project includes engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. Marubeni will provide the balance of plant equipment including a heat recovery steam generator and install all equipment in the plant, while the main equipment such as a gas turbine, steam turbine, and generator will be provided by GE and civil construction will be done by HK.

This is the first large-scale combined cycle power plant project (EPC) for Marubeni collaborating with GE. Through this project, Marubeni continues to develop a strong partnership with GE. Marubeniís total involvement for power plant construction in the world has reached 110,000MW.

In Indonesia, Marubeni has been involved in 7,600MW of power plant construction and also owns 1,500MW (share basis) of power plants as an IPP developer. Indonesia plans to develop several power plants in order to meet its pressing power demands under strong economic growth, and some of those projects are planned to be led by IP and other subsidiaries of PLN.

With the strong relationship with IP developed and enriched by this project, Marubeni commits to contribute a development of power supply in Indonesia as both an EPC contractor and an IPP developer.
