May 2019, Dakar - The organising team of SIEPA welcomes you to the 17th edition of SIEPA Senegal, taking place on 11-13 June 2019 in Dakar. The organisers of this edition are the Association for the Development of Energy in Africa (ADEA), the Association of Senegal for the Development of Energy in Africa (ASDEA) and AME Trade Ltd.
Senegal stands out for its untapped mineral resource potential. Over the last decade, Oil and gas discoveries in the country have increased and with the electricity usage rates sky rocketing to a steady 80%, the government and industry stakeholders have sought for increased foreign investments that would enable Senegal to become a competitive country in the league of other neighbouring countries. Whilst final investment decisions for the petroleum exploitation projects still have to be confirmed, the discovered natural resources are anticipated to become a key factor in accelerating economic growth and help the country achieving the PSE’s target by 2035.
With this agenda outlined, BP has agreed to heavily invest in Senegal by acquiring the full 30% minority participating interests that Timis Corporation held in the Saint-Louis Profond and Cayar Profond blocks offshore Senegal. Not only will they bring development expertise for the Tortue project, they will also engage LNG developments on the maritime border between the two countries. This is subject to the government’s approval and follows BP’s entry into Mauritania and Senegal through an agreement with KOSMOS energy who will lead on exploration.
Moreover, Senegal’s oil product consumption grows by an annualised rate at roughly 4% making the task of upgrading the energy sector extremely time sensitive. It is imperative that members of the energy and petroleum industry attend SIEPA to discuss the urgent matters regarding the development of African refineries, efficient transport and distribution of fuels so that we can ensure a satisfactory supply in the face of growing needs. Senegal recent discoveries are likely to increase government revenues which in turn will provide ??? + sponsors
