Offshore drilling operations of phase 11 of the South Pars gas field began with the installation of the drilling rig at the SPD11B border location.
According to Pars Oil and Gas Company, Mohsen Rezaei, head of the South Pars Phase 11 development project, said with installation of the drilling rig at Phase 11, drilling operations started at SPD11B site in order to increase gas production from the joint field in the Persian Gulf.
Referring to the installation of a 2,200-ton jacket in the SPD11B position in late May, he said: "According to the plans, the Iranian MD-1 rig, owned by MAPNA Drilling Company, is currently stationed in this position and drilling 12 appraisal/development wells has started to achieve a daily production capacity of one billion cubic feet (equivalent to 28 million cubic meters) of sour gas from the phase.”
The head of the South Pars Phase 11 development project stated that in order to accelerate the increase of production capacity of South Pars gas field, SPD11B wells will be drilled in two stages; in the first stage, by drilling and completing five appraisal/development wells and installation SPD11B platform, the initial production of this project will be realized at the rate of 500 million cubic feet per day, then by drilling and completing seven other development wells, simultaneously with the initial production, the total gas recovery from this platform will reach one billion cubic feet per day (equivalent to 28 million cubic meters).
The development plan of phase 11 of South Pars, under the auspices of Pars Oil and Gas Company, is being implemented by Petropars Company as the main contractor of the project in both surface and subsurface sections. The purpose of this project is to produce 2 billion cubic feet of rich gas per day and transfer it to the South Pars onshore refineries.
Following the development of this project, the installation of pressure boosting facilities in order to increase the period of sustainable production and maximum gas extraction from the South Pars gas field is on the agenda of Pars Oil and Gas Company.
