Transneft Druzhba has connected a revamped underwater crossing of the Kuybyshev – Unecha-2 oil trunk pipeline via the Lyubovsha River in Krasnozorensky District, Orel Region.
The new 734 m long underwater crossing with bank sections was built to replace the older one. The need for the revamping was caused by increased requirements for operational reliability and environmental safety of pipes passing along the river bed.
Construction and installation works were launched in June 2020 as part of the technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul programme.
Measures for corridor preparation, welding and pipeline insulation were carried out. The section was laid in parallel with the existing one. Once the work is completed, pipes that have reached the end of their standard service life will be removed.
Hydraulic tests, in-line inspection and commissioning works were performed at the constructed section. The underwater crossing was connected to the OTP during the scheduled 72-hour shutdown of oil transportation.
The connected section commissioning is planned for November 2021.
