Transneft Druzhba has completed the technical upgrading of telemetry systems at offshoots from the Ufa – West, the Kuybyshev – Bryansk and the Voronezh – Belgorod petroleum products trunk pipelines (PPTPs) to oil depots.
The works were launched in May 2020 in Penza, Tambov, Lipetsk, Orel and Belgorod Regions as part of the technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul programme.
During the technical upgrading, specialists installed a new enclosure for the control and monitoring station with a hardware-software complex for line telemetry, power equipment, climate control equipment, fire alarms, security and video surveillance equipment. Instead of using cellular communication, a fibre optic line was connected to the enclosure to provide higher speed and reliability of data transfer to the supervisory control and data acquisition system.
The offshoots will be operated and monitored from a regional control centre in Bryansk. To open and close stop valves remotely, electric drives with adjustable control units were installed on gate valves. Pressure at the PPTP sections equipped with remote gate valves is controlled using modern high-precision sensors.
The updated telemetry system has successfully passed comprehensive testing and put into commercial operation. It will improve the remote centralised operation of process equipment and control over the diesel fuel transportation to petroleum products receiving facilities.
