Astomos Energy Corporation (Astomos Energy) and INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) jointly announced they entered into a carbon neutral propane gas (CN propane) sales and purchase agreement.

The CN propane to be supplied through this agreement will be sourced from the liquid petroleum gas (LPG) produced from the Ichthys LNG Project, which INPEX operates in Australia. The carbon footprint of the propane gas will be offset using carbon credits applied to greenhouse gas emissions across the entire propane supply chain including upstream production, liquefaction, marketing, transportation and combustion by customers in Japan. This agreement marks INPEX’s first CN Propane supply.

Astomos Energy will continue to procure carbon neutral LPG (CN LPG) and accelerate its use in Japan and contribute to the promotion of low and decarbonization of the LPG industry and the realization of a carbon neutral society in Japan.

Astomos Energy realized the world’s first CN LPG procurement and launched Japan's first LPG-fueled vessel toward the realization of the Japanese government’s “Carbon Neutral Society by 2050” policy. Furthermore, Astomos Energy has established the “Green Business Development Office” for the purpose of strategic planning and promotion from a long-term and comprehensive perspective regarding efforts to build a low-carbon society. Astomos Energy will continue to work with its customers to actively promote efforts toward the realization of a sustainable society.

INPEX, as outlined in its “Business Development Strategy - Towards a Net Zero Carbon Society by 2050,” has set goals to achieve its own net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and will proactively engage in energy structure reforms towards the realization of a net zero carbon society. The company will work closely with LPG users to which it supplies wholesale LPG and implement measures contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases on a global scale alongside its customers by responding to their needs by providing solutions such as carbon neutral LPG and other forms of clean energy.
