Transneft Western Siberia has completed technical upgrading of electrochemical protection system for a section of the Omsk Irkutsk oil trunk pipeline (OTP) in Kemerovo Region.
The works were performed as part of the technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul programme of the companys facilities for 2021. The purpose is to maintain a high level of corrosion protection for the oil trunk pipeline to ensure its reliable operation in accordance with required regulatory parameters.
As part of the project to upgrade the existing E?P system, anode beds and casings protectors were replaced; cathodic, anode, drainage and metering cable lines were laid. Test station units, pylons of 10 kV route power lines for supplying ECP equipment, new earthing devices, high voltage cathodic protection switchgear, and additional stray current protection devices for the pipeline were mounted. All the main and auxiliary ECP equipment was installed at existing sites. Data on equipment operation parameters are remotely transmitted to the Sokur oil pumping station (PS) console operator.
The electrochemical protection system has been upgraded using materials and equipment certified or authorised by supervisory authorities.
Modernisation of the ECP system at oil and petroleum products trunk pipelines is essential for ensuring the industrial safety of the company's operating infrastructure. In 2021, in the area of responsibility of Transneft Western Siberia, the ECP at three oil pipelines (the Omsk Irkutsk, Aleksandrovskoye Anzhero-Sudzhensk, Igolsko-Talovoye Parabel) as well as at process pipelines of the Kashtan PS was upgraded.
