Report on Structural Health Monitoring of Topside Piping Systems & Equipment

On commission from the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA), DNV has conducted a study to shed light on sensor-based solutions for condition monitoring and identification of degradation in materials.

A number of serious incidents have been caused by corrosion and fatigue in insulated process piping. To avoid such incidents in the future, integrity must be preserved and maintained throughout the operating period.

We seek to promote the development and exchange of knowledge and are consequently publishing this study on the topic of sensor-based solutions for condition monitoring and identification of degradation in materials.

The report focuses on different sensor systems for detecting fatigue, corrosion and moisture penetration in insulation on piping systems.
