The Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has given A/S Norske Shell consent for the removal of and disposal of the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO and seabed structures on the Knarr field.

Norske Shell has applied to the PSA for consent for removal and disposal of the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO and seabed structures on the Knarr field.

We have now granted the company this consent.

Consent for disposal
The Petroleum Act requires the developer of a field to pay for and to carry out including full or partial removal of facilities and equipment after the production period has ended. The removal work must take place pursuant to the HSE regulations for the petroleum activities, and on the basis of considerations including consent and decommissioning plans.

Knarr
Knarr is a field in the northern part of the North Sea, 50 kilometres northeast of the Snorre field. The water depth is 400 metres. Knarr was discovered in 2008, and the plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 2011. The development comprises a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) and two subsea templates, including six wells for production and injection. The Knarr field consists of two segments, Knarr West and Knarr Central with one template on each structure. Production started in 2015.

The field is in tail phase. A decommissioning plan was submitted to the authorities in 2020.
