The CEO of SONATRACH, Toufik Hakkar met, in Algiers, the CEO of the Italian group Eni, Claudio Descalzi, with whom he discussed ways to strengthen the partnership between the two groups, said a press release from SONATRACH.
During this meeting, the first managers of the two companies discussed “the issue of gas supply to Italy” and reviewed “short and medium-term initiatives likely to increase supply” from Italy via the TransMed/Enrico Mattei pipeline, according to the release.
The CEO of SONATRACH evoked, on this occasion, "the historical relations linking the two companies", recalling "the common strategy of the partnership aimed at accelerating the development of Berkine Sud projects while continuing the investment effort in new and renewable energies”.
During this new meeting which "is part of the initiatives undertaken to strengthen the partnership between SONATRACH and Eni", the two officials discussed "the main issues concern the investments in progress, the production of hydrocarbons at from the jointly exploited deposits, the supply of natural gas to Italy and future prospects”, specified the same source.
The meeting was an opportunity to confirm “the desire to accelerate the development of new oil and gas projects in the South Berkine region, within the framework of the contract which entered into force on March 6th”.
This project includes the construction in Fast Track mode of a new oil and gas development hub in the region, leveraging synergies with existing MLE-CAFC assets in the 405b scope.(APS)
“The commitment of Sonatrach and Eni is based on the common strategy of an accelerated time to market, reinforced by the availability and the capacity of the subsidiaries of the Sonatrach Group in charge of carrying out the work”, said the press release, stressing that the planned activities will allow a significant increase in national production “as of this year”, the first production being “expected in July, ie only three months after the entry into force of this contract”.
