MDL has designed a bespoke solution for the transpooling and storage of Magma’s unique Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) – the m-pipe.
The solution consisted of a custom-designed pallet to maintain m-pipe’s MBR (maximum bend radius), with a height to suit a 2x product packing arrangement.
The pallet height and outer flange diameter had been optimized for the combined lengths of the 2x product lengths, as the composite pipe was required to be spooled on in a single layer, with no overlap of the single products or products spooled on top of each other.
The custom pallet assembly is split into 6 main boltable sections to allow convenient road transport.
The pallet was designed to interface with a standalone turntable delivering 2.2Te of spooling tension up to a height of 2.8m.
To complete the scope, MDL carried out the transpooling procedure on location at Magma’s facility in Portsmouth.
