Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tareq el Molla has discussed in a meeting with Bulgaria's Prime Minister Kiril Petkov cooperation opportunities between the two countries in the energy field, especially as Egypt seeks to become a regional hub for trading natural gas.
During the meeting held on the sidelines of the activities of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the two sides also mulled the repercussions of the current global crisis on energy markets, according to a statement released by the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ministry.
Molla said that he briefed the Bulgarian premier on the developments in the recently-launched East Mediterranean Gas Forum, which serves as a successful regional cooperation mechanism in natural gas, the statement added.
On his part, the Bulgarian prime minister said his country is keen on establishing successful relations with Egypt in the energy sector, the statement noted.
In a related context, the petroleum minister met with OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, where they probed the effects of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on oil prices, the statement concluded.
