Iraq Minister of Oil Meets French Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Minister of Oil, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, has met the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna. During the meeting, they discussed prospects for joint cooperation between the two countries in clean energy sector and others.

The Minister stressed the depth of relations between Iraq and France, the importance of consolidating them and strengthening social and regional peace, the convergence of views regarding the future of energy in the world and the need to adopt plans to enhance oil and gas production capacities that are meet the needs of importing countries, especially the large countries.

The Minister of Oil said that Iraq has many plans and projects to develop the production sectors and the clean energy sector and optimize investment in gas by enhancing joint cooperation with specialized international companies, noting that Iraq is working to increase production as a first stage (5 million barrels per day by 2025 and 8 million barrels per day by 2028).

The Minister pointed to the need for cooperation in the field of clean energy, especially since France has a scientific precedent in a number of energy technologies and methods, in addition to the participation of French scientific institutions in opening a French university in Baghdad, and stressing the importance of opening a training center and developing high skills in Basra because of the importance of this in strengthening community services to obtain job opportunities.

For her part, the French Foreign Minister expressed the willingness of her country to enhance the prospects of bilateral cooperation and relations between the two countries in a way that serves common interests.

She has also noted the importance of dealing with Baghdad in the field of oil and gas industry for the whole country and the importance of the file strategically and in a manner that serves the interests of all parties within the federal state. The meeting was attended on the Iraqi side by the Charge of Affairs of the Iraqi Embassy, the Director General of the Oil Marketing Company, the Director General of Basra Oil Company, the Ministry Advisor for Energy Affairs, while on the French side, the meeting was attended by French Ambassador in Iraq, the General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a number of Advisors.
