The Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR), Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore have successfully commenced cross-border power trade under the Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP) on 23 June 2022. Under the LTMS-PIP, up to 100 megawatts (MW) of electricity will be traded from Lao PDR to Singapore via Thailand and Malaysia using existing interconnections for a two-year period.
The LTMS-PIP, led by Électricité du Laos (EdL), Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Keppel Electric Pte Ltd, is the first successful multilateral cross-border electricity trading initiative involving four countries in Southeast Asia. The project serves as a pathfinder to complement existing efforts towards realising the ASEAN Power Grid and ASEAN Economic Community, and will further strengthen energy security, connectivity, sustainability and prosperity in the region.
Lao PDR, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore look forward to the successful implementation of the project, which will reaffirm and deepen the strong energy cooperation between the four countries.
