In the basin's open and held blocks, PGS acquired a 9 276 sq. km. 3D MultiClient GeoStreamer survey in 2018. The initiative, which made advantage of the most recent PGS multi-component 3D acquisition and imaging technology, included Harbour Energy as a primary prefunder. The operators in the area were able to explore the area much more quickly as a result.
Harbour Energy’s press release stated that the Timpan-1 well is located 150 kilometers north of the Island of Sumatra in the Andaman Sea, Indonesia, in a water depth of 4 245 feet. The well was drilled to a total vertical depth of 13 818 feet subsea. The well encountered a 390 foot gas column in a high net-to-gross, fine-grained sandstone reservoir with associated permeability of 1-10 mD. A full suite of downhole logging including wireline, a drill stem test and 240 feet of core was recovered. The success at Timpan-1 will de-risk other prospects from the block and the discovery bodes well for continued opportunities in the region.
